it's where it all started...or rather it isn't otherwise we would have to ignore the Fleming canon of books....just of late I have been perusing a few charity shops in my locale and have noticed a fair bit of fiction endorsed by the Fleming estate and therefore keeping the James Bond literary brand in form...of course this possibly comes at a cost to quality as I'm sure for every well executed tale there are maybe a few misses it was against this background I purchased this book plus a couple ofThis audiobook kept me as an interested companion from Detroit to Grayling and back. Story about the earl life of James Bond and his first year at Eaton. Focuses on adventures at Loch Silverfin.
I knew I would like this because I like teen spy books, Alex Rider, Jason Steed are my favorite British teen spy's. With the name James Bond I thought this might be even better. It wasn't as good it was set in olden times and I found it hard to relate too. Yes I know James Bond was written years ago so having him as a boy in the 1930's would be correct. But HEY I was born in 2003 that old stuff means nothing to me and I am the target audience.Apart from that it was slow to get going,

Being passionate about all things 007, I figured I would give this a go after finishing everything by Gardner and Benson, along with the recent novels by Deaver, Boyd, etc. However, I was not sure what to think, as much of my love of the Bond character is around his cold, cool demeanor and his dispassionate dispatching of baddies with his licence to kill.That said, this novel was incredible. It far surpassed my expectations as it set the stage for so much of what was to come; so many references
This book was recommended to me by a friend of mine, who had enjoyed it thoroughly. I couldn't reject to read it, as she lent me a copy herself. It was written by Charlie Higson, covering the 'book written by a male author' category of the wide reading program. I feel that this aspect was likely one that greatly affected the writing of the novel.The main character of this book is James Bond, while he is still a teenager and progressing through school.
